The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit is God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. One being, 3 persons.
God has a personal relationship with all who believe in His Son. The moment someone believes that Jesus lived, died and rose again to pay the punishment for our sin, the Holy Spirit, lives in us. This is the new Covenant. It is not by works but through grace we have been saved and given the Holy Spirit.
John 14:15-17 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
Some things the Holy Spirit does for us:
John 14:25-26 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
The Holy Spirit gives life, empowers, protects, cleanses us, convicts the world of sin, guides us, teaches and prays for us.
A few references to the Holy Spirit being God:
1 Corinthians 2:10 “these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”
John 3:5-6 “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
Tit. 3:5 “…he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit…”
We are never alone. We have access to God 24/7 because His Spirit lives in us! Not because we feel His presence, but because we know through the Scriptures.
