What does it mean to recommit your life to Christ? To believe means to trust in Jesus, rely on Him to change your heart and to guide you. God did not die on the cross to be your pal, a friend that you occasionally dial up, or Santa.
To have an authentic relationship with God requires more than an intellectual ascent of His existence. It is handing over the reins of your life and going wherever He calls you to go.
It is not doing your own thing and then asking God to bless it.
In Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’”
Willing obedience…
John 14:15-17 – “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
Galatians 5:16-24 – “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you ant to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
Some ideas for next steps:
- Make sure that your commitment is one of total surrender.
- Get into the Scriptures.
- Pray and let God direct you rather than your own expectations.
- You have to do your part. Turn away from, or repent from, those things, people, or relationships that cause you to walk with the world and not God. It is difficult at first but eternally worth it!
