Many who call themselves Christians are not Christians. They may go to church as a duty and then leave their faith at the door after church is over. They may have said a prayer but did not understand what they were saying. Many others are familiar with God but do not know Him. Many people who are in cults call themselves Christian.
Counter cult ministries often concern themselves with religious sects which consider themselves Christian but which hold beliefs thought to contradict the Bible. Such sects may include: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Unification Church, Christian Science, and Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A true Christian will have made a commitment to love God and to love others. They believe that Jesus died for their sins. The Holy Spirit lives in them. They are known by the way they love others and pattern their lives after Jesus their Savior. We all stumble at times but the way a Christian lives out their faith will make it clear in whom the have put their trust…God or man.

John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” In essence God is saying that when you truly love God, you will know that He wants the best for you. What is best for all of us is to follow God and not our own selfish desires.

Our response to God for what He has done is to love Him and to obey… because we want to and not because we have to. If we understand what Christ did for us on the cross, then our response would be one of thanksgiving with a desire to obey the One who saved us! Matthew 22:33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit!
It is not a check list of what to not do. It is not fire insurance.
Our life on earth is to have a wonderful relationship with Jesus, to be a light for others and to look forward to spending eternity with Him. AMEN!
