The mind is a powerful thing. Aligning our mind with God is critical in our walk with God.
The brain will respond based on what is fed into it. When we feed it with junk, junk with come out. When we feed it with truth and choose to give access of our mind to the Holy Spirit and then act on it, will we be able to experience the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
The mind is an amazing machine.
“The incredibly efficient brain consumes less juice than a dim lightbulb and fits nicely inside our head. Biology does a lot with a little: the human genome, which grows our body and directs us through years of complex life, requires less data than a laptop operating system. Even a cat’s brain smokes the newest iPad—1,000 times more data storage and a million times quicker to act on it.”

But yet, we are called in Scripture to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind. (Luke 10:27)
Without the work of the Holy Spirit living in us, such submission with our mind is impossible. On this side of heaven, with the Holy Spirit in us can train the mind to some degree, but not completely. It is the process of sanctification… becoming more like God through time spent with him. It is a process that is ongoing with each and every choice that we make to submit ourselves to God and not to our old nature. This will be fulfilled when we get to heaven!
For the Christian, when those experiences come to mind, we have the power to control the dominance of thoughts through reading Scripture and thanking God that those thoughts were paid for on the cross and that we are set free from identifying with whatever happened in the past.
God does not require us to submit because He is a tyrant, but because He is a loving Father and He knows what is best for us. The blessings and peace that we gain from humbly surrendering and submitting ourselves to Him daily are a gift of grace that nothing in this world can compare to.
John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
1 John 4:4 “You dear children are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
